personal. style.
its actually quite daunting if you think about it to much. your personal style can reveal a lot about you. when someone meets you for the first time what do they notice? your personality and your style. and come on let's face it, we can't honestly expect everyone on planet earth to "get to know the real us" first, clothing paints a picture of who you are, it tells a story with a glance. when you see a "goth" at the mall, don't deny the fact that you make assumptions about them. (any goths out there, no harm done i respect you for your boldness and courageous style choices) But in all honesty typing this makes the realization grow stronger, others judge you on your clothes. Its involuntary, and it makes me wish i had 45 extra minutes in the morning devoted solely to deciding exactly how I'd like to represent myself to the world each day. because i don't know about you but I've defiantly had those days in which i thought i looked cute when i left the house and then decided i didn't like my choices anymore and wished i could go home and change. most nights i try to pre-plan what I'll try on in the morning so I'm not helplessly wasting my time just standing and staring into my closet.
i often find that people will find a celebrity, model, or icon that they base their outfits/style as a whole around, which is fine but at the same time i wonder is it not better to select pieces you like from many sources of inspiration? my mother once told me that i couldn't purchase a pair of Nike skate boarding shoes because "they weren't my style." and i thought well, if i like them doesn't that make them "my style"?
i think that everyone has their own taste and so what if they want to mold it into something different for awhile? so what if they like to dress in themes? if you want to go granny one day and preppy the next i won't stop you, but make sure your wearing it because you love it and you want to wear it, not because you saw so-and-so wearing it and so-and-so looked good so if i dress like so-and-so I'll be cool. nobody cares about being cool anymore anyway.
ah those shell earrings!!
her sweatshirt has the peanuts on it!
i feel like these girls embraced their personal styles, although i can't know for sure it's almost like the vibe they give off simply works with the clothing that they chose. embrace that which you love!
